Speaker Nancy Pelosi Statement on Israel-UAE Normalization

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed to establish full diplomatic ties:
“The agreement to establish full diplomatic relations between Israel and the UAE is welcome news. It is an important step that could benefit both nations, the region and the world.
“The House continues to object to steps including unilateral annexation that will undermine future efforts to advance a just, stable and lasting peace in the Middle East. I hope that these efforts have been put on hold as the agreement indicates. This agreement reminds us that the best way forward for peace in the region is to create conditions for Israel to negotiate directly with her neighbors.
“We must work together to encourage a real, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region, which must, as House Resolution 326 states, ‘expressly endorse a two-state solution as its objective and discourage steps by either side that would put a peaceful end to the conflict further out of reach, including unilateral annexation of territory or efforts to achieve Palestinian statehood status outside the framework of negotiations with Israel.’”
