Tel Aviv-based news channel signs agreement with association building ties between Israelis and Emiratis

Israeli international news channel i24NEWS on Tuesday announced the signing of a media partnership agreement with the UAE-Israel Business Council.

“We want to connect people to people. We want to show that there is a new dynamic in the region and this is our responsibility at i24NEWS to be part of what is happening there and to be a partner of the UAE-Israel Business Council. It's connecting us directly with this new reality,” i24NEWS founder and CEO Frank Melloul said.

Melloul made the announcement during an i24NEWS special broadcast marking the one-year anniversary of the Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.

The signing ceremony for the Abraham Accords took place at the White House on September 15, 2020.

Melloul was joined in the i24NEWS studio at Jaffa Port by Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem and UAE-Israel Business Council co-founder Fleur Hassan-Nahoum and virtually from the i24NEWS studio in Dubai by UAE-Israel Business Council President Abdulla Baqer Baqer.

Earlier in the day, the three participated in a signing ceremony for the media partnership agreement.

Baqer said that the relationship between Israel and the UAE is developing quickly after the Abraham Accords, adding that i24NEWS is playing a "very big role in educating people about what is going on in the region."

Foreign trade between Israel and the UAE grew from $50.8 million in the first seven months of 2020 to $613.9 million in the first seven months of 2021, demonstrating the significant economic and business ties that have developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The UAE-Israel Business Council was founded in June 2020 to promote business, trade and cultural ties between the two countries. The association includes membership from over 3,000 businesses, entrepreneurs, professionals and public sector leaders.

In June, Dubai's media sector, including Dubai Media Incorporated and Dubai Media City, established cooperation with i24NEWS.

As part of the cooperation, i24NEWS opened an office in Dubai Media City.
