Israel’s Foreign Ministry has announced the appointment of Dorit Avidani as the country’s consul in  Morocco.

Eyal David, Israel’s deputy head of mission in Morocco, congratulated Avidani in a tweet, noting that the newly appointed consul has 30 years of experience with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“She will do very well in her position! An excellent addition to our team in Rabat,” David added.

Morocco’s government has not confirmed or commented on the Israeli appointment yet.

In a similar development in October 2021, Israel’s charge d’affaires in Rabat David Govrin announced that he was appointed as an ambassador to Morocco.

In a similar development in October 2021, Israel’s charge d’affaires in Rabat David Govrin announced that he was appointed as an ambassador to Morocco.

“I have the honor to share with my followers and friends from all over the world the news of my appointment as the official ambassador of the State of Israel in Morocco,” he said in a tweet.

While Govrin has since been Israel’s most senior representative Morocco, the Moroccan government has still not officially commented on or acknowledged  his appointment as Israel’s “permanent ambassador” in Rabat.

The officialization of the appointment of an ambassador requires the formal approval of the receiving country, after which “the newly appointed ambassador should present his or her credentials to the head of state or the Foreign Minister of the receiving country,” as Morocco World News reported last year in response to Isareli reports on Govrin’s appointment.

Most recently, Govrin was not part of the delegation of foreign ambassadors who were hosted at the royal palace to present their diplomatic credentials to King Mohammed VI.

Morocco and Israel re-established diplomatic ties in December 2020, and the two countries have since intensified their cooperation and expressed a shared desire to further strengthen relations in different fields, particularly technology, trade, and tourism.

During a visit to Morocco last month, Israel's Minister of Economy Orna Barbivai said her country aims to increase the volume of bilateral trade with Morocco to $500 million or more, up from the current $130 million.

“The two countries have many opportunities to share in order to reach this level quickly,” she said. According to the Israeli Ministry of Economy, the volume of trade between Morocco and Israel stood at $70 million in 2020, including  $12.2 million of Moroccan exports and $57.2 million of imports from Israel.
