The partnership will allow the medical centers from both countries to learn from each other

In a first of its kind agreement, Sheba Medical Center in Israel and the two largest hospitals in Bahrain are partnering for future research initiatives.

Dr. Nabeel Al-Asheeri, Chief of Medical Staff of Center of Excellence in Bahrain, stated that he chose to work with Sheba because it is an advanced medical center, one of the ten best in the world. The partnership will allow the medical facilities from both countries to learn from each other in fields such as cancer treatment and medical research.

Al-Asheeri also stated in an interview with i24NEWS that this would allow medical personnel from Bahrain to train at Sheba Medical Center and gain knowledge and experience there.

The two countries are geographically very close, roughly three hours away by plane, which makes transfer of technology and personnel easy.

Yoel Har-Even, Director of International Division at Sheba Medical Center stated that they have started face-to-face meetings and soon they are going to have staff going to Bahrain for training and education.

"Most Israelis and Bahrainis share the same values, especially when you talk about medicine," Har-Even said to i24NEWS.

"This is just the beginning," he stated, adding, "We will, in the future, bring Sheba innovation to Bahrain. We can collaborate and work very, very soon."

Bahrain was one of the four countries to sign the Abraham Accords, normalizing ties with Israel. Shortly after, Bahrain appointed their first-ever ambassador to Israel.

Israel recently opened an embassy in Bahrain, increasing the ties between the two countries.
